One of the most difficult things we have to face dog parents is exactly where to eat. Those of us from Spain know perfectly well how difficult it is because, in many places, dogs are still not allowed. And even less so inside restaurants (they could learn a little from France). That is why, in viajando con perro we are going to help you go to restaurants with your dog.
In this post, we will give you some options about where to eat in Belgium with a dog. There are thousands of places where you can taste Portuguese gastronomy at a reasonable price, but you have to know how to look for them, because Porto has become a VERY touristic city in the past years, so the prices are so high. The typical food is: French fries, waffles and chocolate. But the brasseries are also very famous, where the meat and burgers are delicious.
WHERE TO EAT IN BELGIUM WITH YOUR DOG: OUR LIST
We have decided to make two divisions for the restaurants, as we have not been to absolutely all of them and there is not much information on the Internet. In this first section we will tell you which ones we DO know are dog friendly restaurants in Belgium.
- Fritzguard: we loved this restaurant, decorated in the style of a medieval castle. They have a variety of dishes, including Belgian style potatoes with gravy, which were delicious. The service was very fast, so we had finished our meal in half an hour, which is important, as if you have a busy itinerary it is best to eat as soon as possible and continue your tour. It is located in Brussels, near the stock exchange.
- Delirium Café: this is the most famous pub in Brussels and yes, they do allow dogs. They have a wide range of craft beers and food, but it's quite noisy, so some dogs can get stressed.
- Mozart: this is a must if you like to eat. They have spectacular ribs at a very good price. They have restaurants in Brussels, Bruges and Antwerp. We advise you to make a reservation because it is always full, and you can be sure to get a table.
- Chez Leon: here you can eat another typical Belgian dish: steamed mussels. It's curious to say the least, and the restaurant is very famous, and they also allow dogs, that's all you can ask for. We also recommend you to make a reservation because it is so famous that it is always full.
- Moeder Lambic: if you like pubs, and you like to have a beer after a long day, this is the place for you. It's a typical Belgian pub that also has food. And the truth is that we really liked the food, and it was very good value for money. It's true that they don't have as much variety of food as in a restaurant, but everything was delicious, and they also allow dogs inside, which is very nice in winter. One of the star dishes is the Flammekeuche, which is like a kind of pizza with very thin dough and onions, cream cheese and bacon, and we loved it. They have two locations in Brussels.
- Caffe Rosario: it is located in Ghent and is more of a waffle and chocolate café than a restaurant. The staff was very kind to Snow, they brought him water and were very attentive to him. In addition, some of the staff spoke Spanish (and spoke it very well), so you can imagine how many Spaniards were there.
- Brasserie Rozenhoedkaai: the restaurant: located in Bruges, it was the only place we could find a place to eat there. We didn't ask if they allowed pets or not, we just walked in and nobody told us anything. The truth is that in Belgium there are a lot of places where dogs are allowed, because they assume that if you take them to eat it is because they are well-behaved. They don't have much room for big dogs because the tables are too close together (as they are in Paris), so my advice is to make a reservation and indicate that you are going with a big dog. We ordered burgers, and they were some of the best we've ever had, but we did see other dishes at neighbouring tables and everything looked great, especially the meat.

WHERE TO EAT IN BELGIUM WITH A DOG: OTHERS RESTAURANTS
As we were only in Belgium for 5 days and 2 of them were excursions, we didn't have the chance to try all the restaurants we would have liked to, but we had quite a long list, so we want to share it with you so that you don't have to rack your brains too much.
- Hashtag Burgers & Brunch: as the name suggests, it's a burger and brunch place, and the price is €22 per person, which is pretty good considering it's Brussels.
- Jardin des Olives: this one is a bit more chic, with signature food and, therefore, more expensive. The Fork app says it's dog friendly, but it's best to call and ask or send an email.
- BrewDog: we are really looking forward to trying this bar because we have very good references to this chain. Apparently there are several in Europe as well as in Brussels.
- Lyly’s fondue: another one we really wanted to try, but we couldn't because the opening hours were very limited. They were open until 14:00, which was when we finished our tour, so it was impossible for us to go. They have all kinds of food and the reviews are amazing. It's also in Brussels.
For more dog friendly recommendations in Ghent, the city's own tourist office has a section on its website with restaurants that allow dogs, so you can read the list here.
For more dog friendly recommendations in Bruges, we have found a huge list that you can read here.
We hope you have found this post about where to eat in Belgium with your dog. Remember that if you liked something, especially something on the website, we would love you to share it on social media. You can also book any tour using our Civitatis affiliate link, it would help us a lot.
TRAVEL SAFELY WITH YOUR DOG IN BELGIUM
Even if it is a short trip, think that many things can happen, such as your dog getting sick, getting cut by a bottle (in Brussels there was a lot of glass on the ground), or simply getting sick because of the change in temperature or for any other reason. For this very reason, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you hire travel insurance. We recommend you IATI, as it is one of the few insurances that not only offers a very competitive price, but also covers practically everything, including your pet. Remember, you have a 5% of discount if you book using our link
