WHERE TO SLEEP IN PORTO WITH A DOG

The good thing about Porto is that it is a relatively small city, so even if you are not staying in the centre, everything is well-connected. Nevertheless, we recommend that you choose a place that is centrally located, as this will make your trip more comfortable.

The truth is that Porto is an expensive city. And tourism has increased dramatically in recent years. You also have to bear in mind that hotels in Portugal are not the same as in Spain. In Spain, you can go to a three-star hotel and have something quite decent; in London, you can't. In Porto, many of the hotels are old or in desperate need of renovation. Travelling with a dog can sometimes be a bit more complicated, as you need to check which hotels allow dogs, what the conditions are, the price per night or per stay, etc., so sometimes it is difficult to know which hotel is cheaper, or which one is better for you. • Sé Catedral Hotel Porto Tapestry Collection By Hilton: Pets up to 20 kg are allowed with a supplement of €25 per stay. From €175/night. Located in the Baixa area, the most central area of Porto, and also one of the most expensive. However, being so close to the centre means that prices are going to be high, as in any European city. The good thing is that you won't need public transport, because you are within walking distance of the most important tourist attractions.
• Ibis Centro São BentoThis was the hotel of choice on our first visit to the city with Snow. Located in the Sao Bento area, 10 minutes walk from Avenida dos Aliados. A good hotel with the basics and a comfortable bed. From 100 €/night with breakfast. Pets up to 20 kg are allowed with a supplement of 15 € per night. The same chain also offers the Ibis Porto Centro Mercado Do Bolhão and the Ibis Mercure Porto Centro Aliados, but this one only allows dogs up to 10kg, with a fee of €12/night.
• Catalonia PortoWe're not really fans of this chain, as we commented in our post about dog friendly hotels in Spain, but here are the conditions: pets up to 20 kg with a supplement of €25/night and a deposit of €200. From €94/night.
• NH Collection Porto: this is one of our favourite chains because they don't charge a supplement per night, but per stay, so for long stays it's very worthwhile. They allow a maximum of 2 pets per room up to 25 kg and a supplement of €35/stay. From €102/night.
• Pestana Porto: dogs up to 15kg are allowed with a fee of €25/night, which is a bit expensive. The price starts at €150/night.
• ICON Duplo Ribeira: pets are allowed (no maximum weight mentioned) for a supplement of €25 per stay. The price is from €110/night.
• Casual Inca Porto: pets are allowed (no maximum weight) for a supplement of €10/night. The price starts at €71/night. It is a bit further from the centre, but everything is well-connected by metro.
