BEST PET FRIENDLY HOTELS IN SPAIN

One of the most important aspects when organising a trip is precisely the hotel where you are going to stay during your holiday. And when travelling with a pet, things get even more complicated, as not all hotels allow pets, or they do, but with many limits. That is why we are going to tell you what we think are the requirements that a hotel must have to be really pet friendly.

1. Pets allowed without weight limitThis seems to us to be the most important one, because in most hotels there is ALWAYS a weight limit. I understand that if it is a hotel where the rooms are very small, you can't put an 80 kg dog in there because it might not fit, but if you are going to set a limit, make it flexible. That's why we think that a limit of maybe 30-40 kg in small hotels would be fine. Although there will always be someone who disagrees (and we understand that).

2. Price per night: another essential feature. There are many hotels that charge very high supplements per night just for bringing your pet. Obviously, we understand that you have to pay a supplement for cleaning, but the reality is that you have to clean your room thoroughly whether you have dogs in the room or not. We are going to show you hotel chains that charge up to €40 a day extra, which is crazy if you plan to travel for a week or more. So keep this in mind, especially if you don't have as much money as we do 😂

3. Pet policy: This is something we pay a lot of attention to when booking a hotel or not, and it is precisely the hotel's policy regarding animals: whether they can be left alone in the room or not, whether you have to leave a deposit or not, whether they lend you a bed for your pet, etc. We have seen hotels where as a rule you have to leave a deposit of at least €200. I understand that this is in case they break something, but what they are showing you is that they don't trust you, and they are not giving you a chance to prove that your dog knows how to behave.

4. Reviews: we usually look at hotel reviews and comments, especially in the questions section, where many of them are related to pets. If a hotel has a bad reputation, suspect that it may not be the best for your furry friends.

• Ibis:

This chain is inside Accor, a group that includes many hotel chains in different price ranges. We have stayed a few times in this chain (before Snow) and we are very happy. Without going any further, on our trip to Porto (things to see in Porto with a dog in 2 days) we stayed at Ibis. The truth is that they treated us wonderfully and we were very comfortable. We will definitely repeat. You have to keep in mind that it is not a luxury chain, but it has everything you need to be comfortable, both us and our pet. You have to pay an extra charge of course, and that's what we like about this chain, the price is usually quite affordable, it's usually between the €10 and 20 €, in some European countries even less than €10. In our case, in Porto the supplement was 15 € per night. The truth is that we found the price to be quite affordable, and that was one of the reasons why we chose this hotel. Best of all, they didn't even charge us the supplement, so with us you will have guaranteed customers. The requirements for booking are:

• Dogs up to 15kg allowed.
• Please inform the hotel of your stay at the time of booking.
• The animal must have the compulsory vaccines.
• Always keep them on a leash, or if it is a PDD, it will have to carry a muzzle and liability insurance.
• They are banned from cafés and restaurants, except for assistance dogs.
• It is forbidden to leave animals unattended in the room or inside the vehicle.
• It is forbidden to leave food in the bowls, to bathe them and to use hotel towels.
• It is forbidden for them to sleep on the bed or any furniture.

They are standard rules in all hotels, everyone knows their dog and knows what they can and can't do. Without a doubt, for us the best option if you don't want to spend a lot of money, very basic hotels, but with everything you need, well done and tolerant with pets.

• Zenit:

A well known Spanish chain, both in Spain and Portugal (Lisboa). Son hoteles de 4 estrellas, por lo que cabe esperar de ellos es que tengan un lujo mayor que los Ibis. Los requisitos para reservar son:

• Only dogs and/or cats are accepted, the maximum weight allowed is 25 kg.
• The pet must not be left unleashed on the premises (obviously) and the animal must be out of the room or under the control of the owners for cleaning.
• They will not be allowed access to the restaurant or other areas where drinks are served.
• Have documentation at the time of check-in.
• The pet may not be left alone in the room except when guests are in the restaurant. All quite normal and acceptable.
• The price is €20 per night . We think it is a bit expensive, but unfortunately it is in the average and what is usually paid for.

• NH Hotels:

A large chain that also accepts pets. Most of their hotels in Spain and Europe accept dogs and/or cats. You will also have to pay a supplement that we could not specify, since as in many chains it depends on the hotel in particular, but we know that it could vary between the €20-€30. They offer services such as pet beds and bowls for drinking and eating. As in all of them there will be a maximum weight, we can not say exactly, since it varies depending on the hotel. As always, we recommend that you contact us and check availability before booking. NH is synonymous with quality, so if you can afford it, don't hesitate. We stayed in a NH hotel on our trip to the Algarve, specifically in the Tivoli Lagos, and the truth is that the hotel is very good for pets. The specific requirements were: 

• Dogs allowed up to 25kg.
• Your pet must be kept on a leash at all times.
• They can't stay alone in the room except at mealtimes, for which a sign had to be left on the door.
• To get your room cleaned, you had to be outside (another obvious thing).
• They are forbidden to be in the pool, spa and restaurant areas (except on the terrace).
• Have documentation and the vaccines at the time of check-in.
• They give you a bed and a bowl for your pet. It's a nice gesture, to be honest.
• The suplement was €25 for the entire stay. This was a really nice plus. 

• B&B Hotels

A very interesting chain, because it is affordable and has hotels in the main European capitals. Like all hotels, this one also has its requirements and supplements for pets, and they vary depending on the country and the city. Before making a reservation, we recommend that you contact the hotel in question to avoid any surprises. 

Requirements in Spain

• Dogs and cats up to 40 kg allowed.
• Only one animal per room.
• Pets must always be under the supervision of the owner.
• You may not be alone in the common areas.
• The pet fee is €7.50 por noche.
• Dogs are allowed in all Spanish hotels except forB&B HOTEL Zaragoza 280 and B&B HOTEL Victoria Valdemoro.

EU Requirements

We can't know exactly what the weight limit is outside Spain because they don't specify it anywhere, we can only say that they put small dogs, up to what weight is small for them? We do not know. The best thing to do is to contact the hotel in question and ask.
The pet fee depends on the country, but the average is €12 per night, but for example in Amsterdam is €5. The good point is that the maximum is €20, which is a great price.

We think the requirements and the supplement are quite good, and therefore we highly recommend it.

• Ilunion Hoteles:

Con esta cadena nos hemos llevado toda una sorpresa porque, además de tener un montón de hoteles en España, es la primera cadena que vemos que tiene una política DETALLADA con los requisitos para alojarte con tu mascota:

• Dogs and cats allowed SIN RESTRICCIÓN de peso.
• When booking on the website you have the option of a "pet friendly room".
• You must call the hotel to let them know you are bringing a pet.
• A document must be signed with the details of the dog and the owner.
• Pets must always be under the supervision of the owner.
• You may not be in the common areas.
• The pet fee is €25 per night (which is a bit expensive and they only negative aspect of this hotel).
• They give you a welcome kit with bedding, drinking and feeding bowl, which is very much appreciated.

We think the requirements and the supplement are quite good, and therefore we highly recommend it.

• Scandic Hotels:

El otro día se nos ocurrió una idea muy buena y es que vamos a hacer post específicos de cuáles son los mejores hoteles pet friendly por destino, ya que muchas cadenas de hoteles solo existen en una zona geográfica muy concreta, como es el caso de Scandic, puesto que es específica de los países nórdicos, Alemania y Polonia. De esta forma, en cada destino que vayamos añadiendo tendréis una guía completa de los mejores hoteles pet friendly de ese país, que creo que os resultará muy útil.

En el caso de Scandic os lo adelantamos aquí porque sabemos (Sara ha estado en Berlín en uno de sus hoteles) que es bastante buena y los países nórdicos están de moda, por eso la recomendamos. Si tienes pensado ir de viaje a alguna de las ciudades incluidas donde tienen hotel, no dudes en echarle un vistazo. Tiene un suplemento de 20 € por noche. Los requisitos no son claros, porque a la hora de reservar la habitación hay que ir al apartado de «necesidades especiales» para marcar la casilla de habitación para mascotas. Indican que es muy importante marcar la casilla y comunicarse con el hotel porque no todas las habitaciones son aptas para mascotas, por lo tanto, es mejor asegurarse. Suponemos que una vez os pongáis en contacto con ellos, os especificarán los requisitos de una forma más extensa.

• Petit Palace:

Hemos descubierto esta cadena española hace relativamente poco, pero tenemos que incluirla aquí porque esta cadena tiene TODO lo que necesita alguien con perro.

Los requisitos con los siguientes:

• Se admiten mascotas sin límite de peso.
• No hay que pagar suplemento, es decir, las mascotas se alojan gratis. Eso sí, reserva desde su web para que te salga gratis.
• Se ofrece cuenco y bebedero durante la estancia.
• Se ofrece una cama para tu mascota.

Nos parece MUY buena opción si queréis hoteles de 4 estrellas donde no haya que pagar suplemento por noche, ya que si os quedáis bastantes noches os ahorraréis un dinero.

Si estás pensando en darte un lujo o un capricho, esta selección de hoteles pet friendly te va a encantar. Son hoteles caros, algunos incluso MUY caros, pero queríamos que vieseis todas las oportunidades y todos los hoteles en los que sí nos quedaríamos.

• Hoteles W:

Solo con el nombre ya sabéis que esta cadena es el lujo por antonomasia. Y también admiten mascotas, así que os dejamos los requisitos:

• Peso máximo admitido 18 kg y máximo una mascota por habitación.
• Pet fee of €25/night.
• Cargo de 100 € adicionales por limpieza.
• Incluye un kit de bienvenida con una cama, bebedero y un juguete.

• The Westin Palace:

Una cadena muy lujosa con hotel en Madrid, donde también admiten a nuestras mascotas. Estos son los requisitos:

• Peso máximo admitido 18 kg y máximo una mascota por habitación.
• Se admiten mascotas como perros, gatos, aves y peces.
• Sin suplemento por noche.
• Incluye un kit de bienvenida con una cama, bebedero y un juguete.

• Hoteles Hyatt:

Una cadena que tiene hoteles por todo el mundo. En España hay varios en Madrid y Barcelona y Murcia. Hemos visto que en el de Barcelona admiten mascotas incluso en la zona de desayuno, lo cual nos parece maravilloso. Los requisitos varían en función del hotel, pero os dejamos lo principal:

• Peso máximo admitido 40 kg si es una mascota o dos mascotas de 20 kg por habitación.
• Se admiten mascotas como perros y gatos.
• Suplemento de 20 €/noche.
• Se ofrecen camas, y platos de comida y agua para perros y gatos.

• Hard Rock Hoteles:

Como buenos fanáticos de los Hard Rock que somos no podíamos dejar fuera este pedazo de cadena hotelera. Nosotros estuvimos en el Hard Rock Hotel de Madrid con Snow y alucinamos. Es uno de los mejores hoteles en los que hemos estado. Tienen hoteles de 4 y 5 estrellas, pero podrían ser todos perfectamente de 5, puesto que el nivel de detalles y de servicios que tienen es de lujo.

En cuanto a los requisitos, varían en función del hotel, lo cual nos da un poco de pena porque en el de Madrid, por ejemplo, solo admitían perros de hasta 11 kg y un suplemento de 30 € por estancia, mientras que en Tenerife hay una tarifa de limpieza de 100 €.

Lo que sí sabemos es que en casi todos los hoteles del programa Unleashed de Hard Rock solo admiten perros pequeños de entre 8 y 11 kg, lo cual es una pena para quien tenga perros grandes.

• Hoteles Hospes:

No conocíamos esta cadena hasta que nos ha salido en una lista de hoteles de lujo. Hemos estado investigando y efectivamente, son pet friendly. Eso sí, prepárate para pagar unos 300 €/noche si quieres hospedarte aquí.

En cuanto a los requisitos, varían en función del hotel. Hemos visto uno de ellos que admite perros de hasta 25 kg y otro que solo hasta 15 kg. Entre los suplementos, hemos visto que son unos 30 € por estancia y otros 30 €/noche, lo cual no tiene mucho sentido. No admiten perros PPP.

En este blog, como ya sabréis, os lo tenemos que contar TODO, tanto hoteles asequibles, como aquellos más lujosos. Pero en este caso os vamos a contar qué hoteles no os recomendamos, ya sea por su suplemento para mascotas, ya sea por su política de mascotas o por el peso máximo. Muchas de estas cadenas aprovechan el tirón «pet friendly» para aprovecharse y cobrarnos un suplemento completamente alejado de nuestro presupuesto, porque pensamos que un perro no genera tal gasto extra. Sin embargo, es cierto que en algún momento hemos estado alojados en alguno de ellos. Eso sí, sin perro.

• Iberostar:

Una de las grandes cadenas que también admiten mascotas. En esta cadena por lo visto tienen habitaciones habilitadas para el alojamiento con mascotas. Por un lado, está bien porque admiten mascotas, pero lo malo es que limitas mucho a los huéspedes, una vez se acaben esas habitaciones no tendrás posibilidad de alojarte con tu perro. Lo óptimo sería que metas a tu mascota en cualquier habitación, ya que son pet friendly que lo sean al completo, ¿no? Los requisitos para reservar aquí son:

• Peso máximo admitido 10 kg y máximo una mascota por habitación.
• Suplemento POR NOCHE 40 € (nos parece una barbaridad), realmente no consideramos que se genere un gasto extra de tal magnitud por el simple hecho que el animal pase la noche en la habitación. Como siempre es nuestro punto de vista, cada uno es libre de pagar lo que quiera o pueda, pero os damos nuestro punto de vista.
• No se admite el acceso de la mascota a zonas comunes o donde se sirva comida.
• El personal de limpieza solo entrará a la habitación si la mascota no se encuentra dentro, o está acompañada por nosotros.

Aquí hay varias cosas que están mal. Lo primero, el límite de kg, nos parece bajísimo, porque solo pueden alojarse perros muy pequeños. Esto nos lleva a otra cuestión: ¿un perro tan pequeño va a machar y ensuciar tanto como para tener que pagar 40 € por noche? Ya os decimos nosotros que NO.  Sinceramente, nos parece un precio MUY excesivo, pero cada uno sabe hasta dónde puede llegar, eso ya es elección vuestra. Pero desde luego, NO se puede incluir en los mejores hoteles pet friendly.

• Catalonia:

Esta cadena también es bastante lujosa, pero ocurre más de lo mismo que en Iberostar. Ya no solo nos piden un suplemento de 20 € por noche, sino que además, nos piden un depósito de 200 €, por si el animal causa algún daño. Obviamente, si no lo causa te lo reembolsan (solo faltaría), pero si ya me estás cobrando no me pidas fianza, una cosa u otra, las dos, nos parecen excesivas. Y lo que comentábamos antes, déjame demostrar que mi perro sabe estar y luego si rompe algo te lo pago. 

• Sercotel:

Esta cadena también admite mascotas. Por lo visto, no en la totalidad de sus hoteles. Según pone en su web, en hasta 43 hoteles de los más de 100 que tienen sí los admiten. La verdad nos parecen poquísimos, estamos muy atrás respecto a la integración de nuestras mascotas. Como siempre, no tienen una política de mascotas clara, lo cual facilitaría mucho las cosas. Por lo que hemos podido investigar mirando en uno de sus hoteles, los requisitos son los siguientes:

• Solo admiten perros y/o gatos.
  Solo admiten UNA mascota por habitación.
• Cada hotel tendrá un peso máximo adecuado a sus posibilidades.
• Para limpiar la habitación, la mascota no se deberá encontrar en ella.
• Tienen prohibido acceder a zonas comunes de restauración, piscina, spa, gimnasio… a excepción de los perros guía.
• No permiten que la mascota use la ducha de la habitación, tampoco permiten que se suba a la cama…
• Habrá que pagar un suplemento que no especifican, pero que en Barcelona, por ejemplo, varía según el peso de la mascota: de 1 a 4 kg, 20 €/día; de 5 a 10 kg, 30 €/día; de 10 kg en adelante, 40 €/día. Suponemos que depende del hotel, pero si es así nos parece una burrada pagar 40 € al día por tener una mascota de 10 kg o más. Por eso pensamos que no es una buena opción para alojarnos, pero como en muchas ocasiones decimos, depende de cada uno.

• Meliá:

Otra de las grandes cadenas de hoteles, a nosotros nos gusta mucho, ya que es sinónimo de calidad. Hemos estado en el de Alicante, y es una LOCURA lo increíble que es. Lo malo es que en casi ninguno de sus hoteles admiten mascotas, por lo tanto, lo metemos en los no recomendados (muy a nuestro pesar).

El precio también es bastante elevado, como se suele decir la calidad hay que pagarla. No podemos asegurar que en vuestro destino deseado, esta cadena acepte mascota. Lo mejor es preguntar o mirar en Booking si aceptan mascotas o no. También depende de cada hotel tendréis unas características u otras, como por ejemplo el peso, dependiendo del hotel tienen un máximo marcado. Como en casi todas las cadenas, también habrá que pagar suplemento.

No podríamos decir exactamente el importe del suplemento, ya que depende del hotel, pero sobre unos 25 €/noche. Como en todos habrá un límite de peso que no especifican, puesto que también variará dependiendo del hotel en concreto. A la hora de hacer la reserva deberíais informaros para no llevarnos ningún susto. Que no tengan una política de mascotas claras es un problema, ya que así es muy difícil informaros.

Once you see one you like, just go to the requirements and see how much the supplement is per night. Sometimes it doesn't say, so in that case you can look in the questions to the hotel (there are almost always one or two related to pets), or you can write directly to the hotel.
• Bring FidoWe discovered this application a year ago and we LOVE it. The bad thing is that it is in English, but if you need help with this procedure we have a service of consultancy and language assistance to help you with this process. You search for the destination you want and you will see the hotels, flats that allow dogs and the requirements. You also have the option to view restaurants and bars that are pet friendly, but it is not very reliable because if the establishment is not registered on this website it will not appear.
